An Unfinished Basement Becomes Family Space

We took this Cherry Hill basement from open framing to a finished family room with a fireplace media wall, stair nook, shelving and a kids playhouse.

The Transformation

This Cherry Hill basement was open space with bare concrete and exposed ceilings. The family wanted a place to relax together and a place for the kids to play.

We framed the walls with metal studs, closed everything in with drywall, leveled the floor and refinished the stairs. A dark fireplace and media wall anchors the seating area, and open shelving divides the room without closing it off.

Under the stairs we built a reading nook, and at the far end a custom two-level playhouse with a ladder and toy shelves. The laundry has its own closet, so the room stays tidy.
